@deengiwamaiyaki: RABIES: A DEADLY DISEASE YOU SHOULD NEVER IGNORE Rabies is a viral infection that affects the brain and nervous system. It is usually transmitted through the saliva of an infected animal, most commonly through a bite. Once symptoms appear, rabies is almost always fatal. The good news? Rabies is preventable. If you are bitten or scratched by a potentially infected animal: • Wash the wound immediately with soap and plenty of running water. • Seek medical care as soon as possible. • Post-exposure treatment may include rabies vaccination and, in some cases, rabies immunoglobulin. Do not wait for symptoms to appear. Prevention must happen before the disease reaches the nervous system.
