@littlebirds_griefdiary: These photographs were taken just two weeks before my Mum died by suicide. When I look at them now, one of the things that strikes me most is just how happy she looks. She’s laughing. She’s smiling. She’s surrounded by people. If you didn’t know what happened afterwards, there is nothing in these photographs that would tell you just how deeply she was struggling. Depression doesn’t always look like sadness. Someone can laugh, make plans, spend time with the people they love and still be fighting a battle that nobody else can see. I wish more than anything that my Mum had been able to see herself and her future beyond the pain she was experiencing in that moment. Seventeen years later, I still wish she was here. So today, in my Mum’s memory, please check on the people you love. Not only the ones who seem sad. Not only the ones who are asking for help. Check on the ones who are smiling too because sometimes the people in the most pain hide behind the biggest smile! #SuicidePreventionDay #MentalHealthMatters #SuicideAwareness
