I almost missed this little guy sitting on the very tip of a branch. This is a Carolina Saddlebags dragonfly. It gets its name from the dark reddish-brown patches at the base of its hindwings that look a little like tiny saddlebags. Of course, once I took the picture, I had to learn more about it. 😂 Dragonflies actually spend the first part of their lives underwater as nymphs. Then one day they leave the water, shed that old form, grow wings, and take to the air. Talk about transformation. Dragonflies have become symbols of change, growth, and adaptability because of that incredible life cycle. But with this one, it was the name “saddlebags” that really got me thinking. We all carry things through life. Memories. Love. Loss. Lessons. Things that changed us. Things we probably should have put down a long time ago. I don't think growing means forgetting where we've been or everything we've been through. It's learning what we want to carry forward and what we're finally ready to leave behind.
