Who is one of your auto-buy/read authors? Review: Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an eARC. This does not influence my opinion. Honestly, I expected to love this book a lot more than I did. I love the author’s other series, The Butterfly Assassin, so I expected to love their Fantasy/retelling debut just as much. And while I do love the writing style, there are some things that were just left out of the story, that readers are just expected to know (with no way to know other than knowing the original material or good pattern recognition). This then leads to plot holes. But, as I said, I do love the writing style. There’s not many authors and stories that can pull of a second person narrative as well as The Wolf and His King does. This book is also great at portraying yearning. Because of the strength of this yearning, I struggled to sense any emotional connection between Bisclavret and his wife, only the one between him and the king. Bisclavret however, keeps talking about how much he loves or loved his wife without ever showing it, which makes this part of the story hard to believe. I also found the plot twist to be unclear, I only figured it out because I expected this exact thing to happen, not because anything in the story told me until the actual “twist”. The twist itself is good though and very fitting. Still, I do really like this story and love seeing more retellings of lesser known mythological stories. #TheWolfAndHisKing #ARCReview #QueerRetelling
