@drgreghealth: Here are the three markers I see most often in the clients who live the longest. I've been a functional medicine doctor for more than 25 years, and these aren't the numbers on your annual physical. Number one: Grip strength. It sounds simple, but it's one of the most predictive numbers in medicine. The same 140,000 person study tied weaker grip strength to higher cardiovascular death, higher all-cause mortality, and a greater risk of cognitive decline and dementia. Most doctors never measure it. Number two: Fasting insulin. Your glucose can look perfectly normal for years while your insulin is quietly climbing behind the scenes. By the time glucose finally rises, the metabolic damage is already underway. This is the earliest warning sign of metabolic disease, and it's almost never ordered on a standard panel. I like that number between two and five. Number three: High-sensitivity CRP, or hs-CRP. It's a marker of chronic inflammation, the common thread running under heart disease, dementia, and most of what shortens a life. It catches these things years before the diagnoses show up. I want that number under 0.3. Your annual physical checks cholesterol and glucose. My longest living clients are the ones who know these three numbers instead. Find the root. Heal the whole.

Dr. Greg's list of markers to improve longevity
1. Grip Strength
2. Fasting Insulin
preferred marker between 2-5
3. HSCRP (high sensitivity C-reactive protein) chronic inflammation marker
Ideally less than 0.3
Thanks!

If these three markers are so important why don’t doctors request them for their patients?

I assume grip strength is different for men and women. Can you tell us how can we measure it and what numbers should we aim for depending if you are a man ir a woman? Also what numbers should we aim for C Reactine Protein?

Nope. There’s only one that’s fool proof, it’s happiness. Every single person that has lived after 90s all had one thing in common, they weren’t miserable during their life. They were always happy, always found the silver lining. It’s not about muscle, fat, it’s about mind. 👍❌

Guess I want to understand if a person's grip strength is just better because they are healthier & live longer or if increasing one's grip strength can change the tide.

Nice! My grip strength is stupendous lol. But my insulin is climbing. Plus chronic inflammation. Damn it lol. For my own notes: fasting insulin, glucose which is not ordered on a standard panel. Also Hscrp needs to be less than 0.3.

I just turned 36 (and have hashimotos) but my C Reactive Protein is always very high- averages about 37. What do you recommend to address this? Any tips?
