I remember one time I brought my 6’4’ male boss with me to fill up my gas tank because it was late at night. When I started filling my tank, a guy pulled up on the other side of the pump and started harassing me saying stuff like “where you going tonight? Can I come with?” I kept avoiding eye contact but he was persistent. It wasn’t until he saw my big boss in my passenger seat that he decided to shut up and leave me alone 😩🤦🏻♀️

You are quite probably the most reasonable person discussing gender issues online.

I think I def disagree. In my opinion the real reason is men are more likely to accept the “I have a boyfriend” because it isn’t a direct critique on them…. If you just say no the man is wondering why… what’s wrong with him. If you have a boyfriend then there is a reason that doesnt mean the man is undatable

I don't think that it has anything to do specifically with another man. It's more along the lines of respecting that somebody's in a relationship and you're not going to be a homewrecker.

Yes. All of this is true. On the other side of this, women show more interest when they know a man is in a relationship.

respected her no and moved on, only for her to spread falsehood that I didn't put enough efforts 🤷🏾♂️

For me, no doesn’t work so I say i’m married instead (a lie) and that usually leads to these creepy men asking me to divorce my husband. Nothing makes them leave me alone!

I always assumed it was fear tbh. Fear of confrontation and a potential fight. They won’t sign up for a fight with a man they can’t see because hey can’t guarantee they’ll win. The ones who don’t care when women say they have a bf either don’t care and won’t back down from a potential fight or view her as “taken”. I’ve had some guys say this as well… it’s so odd

Yeah, I don’t think this is true. When someone hears that, they aren’t imagining the boyfriend as, I don’t know, George Washington or whatever, someone they “respect”, they aren’t even thinking about the guy. If you’re conditioned to believe your efforts matter, you’re going to think you can convince or show value to someone and that will change their mind. It’s that simple.

I’ll just say this, I’ve seen my boys get and still hook up with a girl even when she initially says that she’s not interested just because he still tried to pursue her that night….. if she says she has a dude or a partner. The chances are nearly 0 you’re going to be able to get with her…. Maybe messed up to say but if a girl doesn’t have a partner and is single, your chances are never technically zero.

Nothing to do with respect but instead probability of anything actually happening. If you say you’re in a relationship that’s unlikely to result in anything further but plenty of women will say no or that they are unsure and will go on to take things further. This often gets lost in the conversation.

I don’t understand why that’s still a thing in this day and age. A respectful “thank you for your time” and walking away is the correct response

The worst response to telling a guy I have a boyfriend was "is he in the same zip code?" like.... what?! I used to be as creepy and as intentionally off putting as possible to get them away from me. And often times that didn't work!

I think a good analogy is that in general in dating men are in sales, and women are in advertising. Obviously within reasonable limits, a salesperson doesn’t instantly stop at the first sign of hesitation- they try to get their pitch out. (Not saying that’s necc. good or correct) and I think a very reasonable alternative explanation to “not respecting a woman” is that it’s gross and immoral to pursue someone who is already in a relationship, where as “not interested” might change with more information.

My personal opinion you say no, I take tht and move on whether you meant it or not. I’ve had women say no i move on and then they come up to me asking why I wasn’t persistent after they told me no…..and I hold them to tht no because I don’t play those games. You can change your mind but so can I.
