Making guests check out by 10 with a list of chores to do before they leave VACATION has always been insane to me. We’ve literally started choosing hotels more often now because of the prices/fees and list of chores.

I don’t understand having guests do chores if there is a cleaning fee. Obviously don’t leave the place a mess but nitpicking the beds not being stripped makes people go back to traditional hotels.

This is the second Airbnb host who has gone viral for being overly prescriptive/punitive about chores, and both of these hosts are overtly religious—I feel like that could be unpacked a bit… 🤔

My air BnB host left me a bad review saying I just “lightly rinsed” the dishes when I actually hand washed the dishes with the detergent they gave me, rinsed them and left them to dry. They also complained about hair in the shower

Im so confused. Ive never been to an Airbnb but did housekeeping 10 years ago for cabins and there was never a "clients should clean" arrangement back then.

go to hotels people. you aren't contributing to the housing crisis, you are waited on and you can tip a deserving worker instead of paying a cleaning fee

I have a weekly maid. Often we clean together, but most of the cleaning is done by her. I'm not going to pre vacuum or strip the bed. I pay for her service. When I go to an AirBnB I expect the same, I'm not going to trash the place, I will leave it as tidy as possible, but I pay a cleaning fee, get a professional in to clean!

Respectfully if I’m paying a cleaning fee I’m not cleaning anything. I will make sure all of the trash is in the trash can and nothing is on the floor. That’s it.

i will never get the appeal of Airbnb simply because why am I doing chores on holiday. I leave hotels clean but I've never had to hoover etc. once stripped hotel beds because we had late check out but aside from that am not vacuuming etc.

If I’m paying for a cleaning fee, I’m not doing the dishes, stripping the beds, starting the laundry, etc. IF IM PAYING A CLEANING FEE IM NOT CLEANING!! Especially if it’s $200-$500 cleaning fee WHY WOULD I?? I’m not even picking up the vacuum.

Also why does she not have mattress covers on that bed? A high end mattress cover will save you thousands in replacing the mattress. And can prevent you from having to toss all the mattresses if someone brings in bedbugs.

I ask my guest to start the dishwasher, take out the trash and start a load of towels. If they do, great. If they don’t, great. Those things are courtesies.

If I have to pay a 200+ cleaning fee I’m not cleaning the entire house for them. I won’t leave it thrashed and dirty but I’m not cleaning the entire house, I payed 200+ for someone else to clean the house.
