@global.crisis3: September 9, 2026 | Italy 🇮🇹 After several weeks of intense heat, a powerful wave of severe weather passed through the north and center of the country. Thunderstorms were accompanied by heavy downpours, large hail, squally winds, and sudden local flash flooding. Lombardy was hit particularly hard. In the province of Brescia, up to 45.5 mm of rainfall was recorded locally within 24 hours, while around 31 mm fell in the Iseo area. In certain areas, precipitation levels were even higher. Between Alfianello and Pontevico, wind gusts exceeded 100 km/h, damaging roofs of houses and industrial buildings, tearing down structures and billboards, and uprooting trees. In Cigole, a severe squall damaged industrial facilities and ripped off a large number of solar panels. In Milan, the first heavy thunderstorm arrived around 5:30 AM, followed by another wave in the afternoon: trees fell onto streets and cars, and several districts were flooded.
