“Dad, I think I’ve found my people.” An autistic man whose festival friendship has gone viral has spoken out about the overwhelming response he’s got from attending Boomtown Fair. The story of Adam James, from High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, has captured the hearts of music fans across the globe, with superstar DJ Diplo even reaching out. The 23-year-old's family were “really on edge” about him attending the Hampshire music festival from August 12-16 alone and even formulated an emergency evacuation plan. But it couldn’t have worked out better for the aspiring drum and bass DJ. Adam’s dad, Andy James, has told how his fears “melted away” after Adam was befriended by a group of lads who asked to borrow his tent mallet, then, noticing he was on his own, invited his son to camp with them. Adam later messaged saying: “Dad, I think I’ve found my people.” Following the festival, Mr James expressed his gratitude to the

The post also led to Adam, who is also known as Adzo to his friends, being booked for several gigs – including Boomtown – and reuniting with his new friends at the Trident Pub in Bristol. Ciaran, a member of the group that took Adam in, said his new mate fitted in perfectly, adding: "It was almost like he drove to the festival with us." Boomtown festival's co-founder, Luke Mitchell, told the BBC that Adam's story had "circled around the Boomtown office with absolute joy" and added that stories like his are “why festivals are so incredibly important”. Boomtown Fair has asked Adam to play a set next year, with timings to be announced once programming had been finalised. In a post on Instagram, Adam has told how overwhelmed he has been by the response, saying “you lot are f****** mental”, and explaining how he has been “trying to reply to everyone all day”.  “This is genuinely mental”, he added, while telling people that he will be back to mixing “some blends” soon. #Boomtown #music #dj #Adzo
