The sense of strength, peace and security provided by brutalist architecture is a testament to the raw construction and material choice. Almost monolithic in appearance through the triumphant marriage of function and form. Efficient surfacing and unforgiving minimalist geometry evoke feelings of respect and order. You can't make it your own, you have to accept it for what it is. I know people hate on this for being too raw and "cold" but that is the exact reason I adore it. It is confident and imposing. It somehow transcends elaborately detailed and charming architecture with its visual permanence and structural strength. Not necessarily superior to other styles but it's fundamentally appropriate for public or shared building applications. It is undying and pure. The materials do the work so decorative accents and refinement have no place. It's just so raw. Okay I'm done romanticizing brutalism I'm gonna go touch grass now.
