They call it a trade war, but it isn't. If Canada were just one citizen and the US were another, and we both decided to engage in free trade, the Canadian would sell 10 unique products to the US, and the US would sell 10 unique products to Canada. If the US suddenly decides to slap a 50% import duty on those 10 Canadian products, why can't Canada take the exact same action? This is why retaliation should be dollar-for-dollar, meaning: "If you charge 50%, I charge 50% as well—that's fair."
