Being “good with money” isn’t always about doing more in Australia 🇦🇺 A lot of the biggest changes in my life came from things I STOPPED doing. 👇 I started at 22 with basically $0. Over the next 5 years, I focused on increasing my income, building businesses, keeping my lifestyle under control and being more intentional with money. By 27, I’d built my net worth to over $2 million. Here are 9 things I don’t really do anymore: 1️⃣ I don’t upgrade things just because something new comes out.
If my phone works and my clothes still fit, I’m probably keeping them. 2️⃣ I don’t buy things just to look successful.
Looking wealthy and actually building wealth can be very different things. 3️⃣ I don’t let my spending automatically rise with my income.
Earning more doesn’t mean every part of life needs to get more expensive. 4️⃣ I don’t ignore recurring expenses.
$10 here and $20 there can quietly become hundreds every month. 5️⃣ I don’t shop because I’m bored.
A lot of unnecessary spending comes from wanting entertainment, not needing something. 6️⃣ I don’t automatically buy the cheapest option.
I think about quality, how long it’ll last and cost-per-use instead. 7️⃣ I don’t compare my lifestyle to social media.
You see the car, holiday or designer purchase. You rarely see the financial situation behind it. 8️⃣ I don’t rely on motivation to manage money.
Simple systems, separated accounts and automated bills make things easier. 9️⃣ I don’t make big purchases in the moment.
If I don’t genuinely need it, I give myself time. A lot of things feel far less necessary a few days later. One thing I’ve learned over the last 5 years: Building wealth can actually be pretty boring. Earn more. Keep your lifestyle under control. Avoid unnecessary lifestyle inflation. Repeat sensible decisions for years. 📈 This is simply what has worked for me and what I’ve learned along the way. #sydney #australia #australian #aussie
