You're misinterpreting how xG prevented works. Higher xG prevented does not mean you're saving more difficult shots, it means you've saved more cumulatively than you concede. If you concede a 0.9xg chance, your xg prevented is only -0.1, vs conceding a 40 yard 0.1xg screamer where your xG prevented is now -0.9. If you concede that close range shot, a couple of routine saves puts you in the positive. If you concede the 40 yard screamer, you need to pull out worldies or dozens of routine saves to get back in the positive. Raya having such a good defence in front of him means the xGOT is always going to be on the lower side of things. Donnarumma faced 34.8 xGOT, Raya only faced 24.9. Lower xGOT skews xG prevented.

You are mixing up a great shot stopper vs a great goalkeeper as a whole, while players like Donaruma are fantastic shot stopper they are nowhere near the same level in claiming crosses, distribution, coming out and generally on the ball. Furthermore I think these stats actually don’t show the best of David Rayas saves, most of his best saves are attempted worldies which may be only 0.1xg or less. Finally the eye test I think helps Raya’s case.

Mate we can’t seriously still be doubting the fact Raya isn’t clearly the best keeper itw 😭 I thought the whole ‘he got the best defence’ shit had gone. Just watch him play ffs. The best with his feet and probably the best with his hands. Definitely the best in the air by FAR

There's a reason he warms the bench for Spain. He's a very adequate goalkeeper, but for a team like Arsenal who are so tight defensively, there's no need to upgrade really 🤷♂️

Eye test is the best metric to judge a goalkeeper. Raya has a preventative approach. High claims, distribution and ability to cut out balls in the box are his best attribute. He’s a big factor why he faces so few shots. Whilst I don’t think he’s not elite at any traditional GK metrics. He is at bare minimum above average or good at all of them.
