My old school would let juniors and seniors do this as a class period and get credit. It was the GREATEST. I miss them so much

Veteran teacher here, I had an entire list of things for my assistants to do and they all got community service credit! I taught the older ones how to repair instruments as well so that really helped us all!!!

I definitely was a teaching assistant for my fiance class. My day was usually over by 11 so I just went to her class to grade assignments, help with work, and even ran her little store she had in the back(once we caught who was stealing)

I write the 5 highest grades in each class on my board and spin a wheel of names every Monday. Whoever it lands on is my assistant for the week. They answer the door, pass out my tickets and grade the Do Nows and Exit Tickets. Since we can't have them touch our gradebooks, I'll let them grade in Google Classroom and I'll look it over every Friday before I finalize the grades.

yes! watching the kiddos get older as they come back to visit has been my favorite part of teaching as the years go on! I dont want to be a downer, but I think having them grade and input assignments is a FERPA violation 🫣 it is nice to have help though. thats the main reason I sign up to mentor college student teachers. but Im lucky to live in a college town where they are a dime a dozen.

I used to this in 8th grade 😂 I wouldn’t go to encore so I could grade papers but I wasn’t allowed to grade any of my classmates papers only other blocks/classes 😂 I loved my lil job !
