One thing I absolutely love about gardening in San Antonio, Texas, is that fall gives me another chance to put seeds in the ground and keep that garden producing. Once that summer heat finally starts easing up, I’ll be ready to get my hands back in the soil. 👩🏾‍🌾 Here’s what I’ll be direct sowing: 🥕 Carrots 🫛 Peas 🫜 Beets 🫜 Radishes 🥕 Parsnips 🥬 Spinach 🥒 Cucumbers 🌱 Turnips 🌽 Corn 🌱 Rutabagas 🥬 Swiss chard 🌱 Kohlrabi 🌱 Green onions 🧄 Garlic 🌱 Leeks 🌱 Squash No transplanting, no hardening off—just seed, soil, water, and a little patience. 🌱 One of the things I love about gardening here is our long growing season. It gives me plenty of opportunities to keep growing food well into fall and, with the right crops, straight through winter. I’m already looking forward to that transition from summer crops to a garden full of cool-season vegetables. 💎 And if you know me, you already know I don’t always follow the gardening rules to the letter. Sometimes you have to experiment, pay attention to your garden, and see what works for YOU. 💎💎 I start my collards, mustards, broccoli, short day onions, cauliflower, and a few other fall crops in large containers outside on my patio. Once the seedlings get a good size and the weather starts to cool down, I transplant them straight into the garden. It’s an easy way for me to get a head start on my fall garden without having to start seeds indoors. Signed, your habitual garden rule breaker. 👩🏾‍🌾😂 What are you direct sowing in your fall garden? And what’s the ONE crop you absolutely refuse to garden without? #FallGarden #FallGardening #DirectSow #DirectSowing #TexasGardener
