@costco: Jim Sinegal, the executive vice-president of merchandising, distribution and marketing at Price Club, helped turn it into a success story that changed the face of retailing worldwide. Jeff Brotman, whose family had deep roots in retail, was urged by his father to check out the bustling Price Club warehouses in California. Brotman immediately flew down to California and quickly realized he was in agreement with his father: There was nothing similar in the Pacific Northwest. Looking for somebody to help start and run the new business, Brotman asked around among his contacts and was told there was only one guy for the job, a man who had worked with Price Club and understood this new warehouse model: Jim Sinegal. One cold call later, a lifelong partnership was born.

Jim Sinegal and Jeff Brotman... back in the days when the mission statement meant something. Now, the company's culture is in decline. It's the difference between people who built something, and people who are trying to hold on to what others built.

ya, keep flying to the tailwind of these two. I've heard upper management on the corporate lever have lost touch, and only care about profits, and not their employees anymore. definitely shows when I go to any costco now.
