I’m going to make a huge generalization but every Sikh person I have ever met/known has been the kindest gentlest person. I will always stand up against hate towards these precious people. What a sad and beautiful story.

Growing up as a millennial, I can say that the Indian community got so much hate after 9/11 when they aren’t even Muslim. Sikh boys were bullied so bad by others.

Went to his memorial service days after. His community welcomed everyone, fed us, and gave us a profound example of love triumphing over hate.

There was a huge practice in Sikh communities not to say "I am not Muslim" because that just redirected the hate. Genuinely touching. I truly miss what I thought America was and I am glad some people are living it.

I remember one of my classmates stopped wearing his turban “to be safe” in middle school. SMH.

I was in first grade when it happened and the switch up at school was crazy. I’m also Sikh and other kid’s parents were calling me names too. I stopped getting invited to any birthday parties or outings and became an outcast until we got older. People can be harsh, but again you learn to love and move on.

The owner of the bodega across the street from our apartment on the upper westside of Manhattan was assaulted a couple of days after 9/11 with a 2x4. My mom and I felt terrible. He was nothing but kind 😔

“His family refused to let hate be the end of his story” immediate thought was of course, they’re Sikh. My parents used to tell me if I ever got lost to look for a mom or any man with one of the big turbans because they would be Sikh and Sikh are some of the best, kindest people.
