And the word itself is considered and onomatopoeia because it sounds like what it describes • goudou goudou • the shaking and rumbling of the ground beneath you. While this video is meant to be lighthearted and fun, we should always remember the very real impact earthquakes have had on Haiti. The 2010 earthquake, in particular, left a lasting mark on the country, taking hundreds of thousands of lives, displacing millions, and affecting generations of Haitians. So yes, we can laugh about the word and celebrate the creativity of our language, while still honoring the history and the people behind it. ❤️🇭🇹
