Shalini Thakur, a 38-year-old California woman, was chased through a Panera Bread parking lot and k!lled in broad daylight by a DoorDash driver who authorities say had become obsessed with her. The attack happened last Tuesday outside a Panera Bread on Howe Avenue in Sacramento. According to officials, 22-year-old Rohit Rohit approached Thakur near her car. When she tried to run, authorities say he chased her, pulled out a g*n and shot her multiple times. Officials say Rohit then approached her after she had fallen and shot her in the head at close range before fleeing in his vehicle. Police caught up with Rohit shortly afterward and found him d3ad inside his car from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. But investigators say the attack was not random. According to Thakur’s family and authorities, Rohit had been stalking and harassing her for months. The alleged obsession reportedly began after Rohit met Thakur through food deliveries at her workplace. Police say the stalking started as early as September 2025 and intensified in the months that followed. Authorities say Rohit secretly tracked Thakur’s vehicle with an Apple AirTag, deflated her tires and followed her to work so he could pretend to help her. He allegedly obtained a copy of her apartment key and entered her home while she was sleeping. Thakur eventually obtained a civil harassment restraining order against him in May. But police say Rohit continued violating it. On July 29, Thakur reported that he had left random grocery items outside her front door. Deputies attempted to contact him but were unsuccessful. Investigators also say Rohit had previously told Thakur he wanted to marry her and had threatened to harm himself or anyone she became involved with. On the day of the attack, Thakur spoke with her mother, Sudesh Kumari, by phone. Nearly an hour before the incident, she told her mother she would call back in 15 minutes. That call never came. Kumari later told KCRA that she believed the justice system had failed to protect her daughter, saying Thakur repeatedly contacted police and sought restraining orders. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said deputies and detectives remained in contact with Thakur and repeatedly encouraged her to seek protection because of safety concerns. DoorDash said it is cooperating with the investigation and has “zero tolerance” for violence or harassment. The case remains under investigation. Do you think more could have been done to protect Shalini? 💔 #TrueCrime #CrimeNews #Stalking #Sacramento #DoorDash
