🇲🇲 MYANMAR CULTURE IS NOT JUST A PERFORMANCE. IT IS A LIVING HERITAGE.
The ongoing controversy surrounding Scarlet Heart Thailand raises serious concerns about the use of Myanmar cultural elements, including traditional costumes and a performance resembling Rakhine oil-lamp dancing.
Rakhine oil-lamp choral dancing is more than an aesthetic performance. According to Myanmar Digital News (23 August 2019), the Buddha Pujaniya song was composed by U Batha in 1965 for paying homage to the Buddha, Dhamma, and Sangha. The Rakhine dance was presented at the 19th Union Day celebrations in 1966, marking an important milestone in its public history. Its devotional movements symbolize the Three Jewels of Buddhism.
Rakhine cultural heritage is rooted in Rakhine State in western Myanmar, and historical evidence of Rakhine musical and performing traditions is also documented in Mrauk-U, including sculptural depictions at Shittaung Pagoda.
These are not merely decorative movements or props. They carry cultural, historical, and spiritual meaning for the people who preserve them.
I call on GMMTV and the production team to clarify the historical sources behind the disputed performance and costumes, and to provide appropriate acknowledgment if Myanmar's heritage was used as inspiration.
Respect Rakhine culture. Respect Myanmar's heritage. Cultural creativity must come with cultural Don't ignore our words.. respect to respect

"Our country is not trying to look for trouble. This series does not depict both Myanmar and Thai cultures together; it is set in Thailand, but it uses our cultural heritage—that is why we are speaking out. We are not attacking the artists."

Depicting traditional Myanmar and ethnic cultural attire in films as if it were their own, without seeking prior permission or acknowledgment, demonstrates a complete lack of respect for our national culture and customs. As citizens of Myanmar, we urgently demand an official clarification and explanation from the film production company/organization regarding this matter.
