We live up in the mountains surrounded by forest, we also accept that we share our home from time to time. Locals use the timing of sudden mouse arrivals around the house as signs of cold snaps coming in. 2 cats help keeps things from getting out of hand though. Bon courage

We have 95%solved the problem now but when we would visit our house in rural France each year we would have to hoover up literally thousands of flies from the loft bedroom! , did it detour us ? Never!

Noo you need to get rid of the mice hopefully not rats both will do a lot of damage to wiring especially and also woodwork, you need to close off all possible entry point, living with them is not an option

We have this but with mice in rural France every time we get there. I’ve learnt to ignore them now and keep the poison and sounders topped up

Are the creatures in the ceiling Loir? We have them and gave up after we’d caught quite a number humanely and released them. It’s a never ending battle and just adjusted to life with them.

I have no rats in the house but snakes, bats, owls, mice, spiders...and outside many scary creatures, but fortunately no neighbours around 😂

Even in England you are never far away from long tails I live in the country and mice come into the house every Winter. They are just looking for food and shelter, it’s just the way it is and I have got used to it although I do catch them as it’s very unhealthy having them run around the kitchen!

Get a cats 🐈⬛ and once you’re not there ask neighbours to feed them! Will be success! Trust me

Interesting we have had house balchik Bulgaria had it 22yrs the odd rat wouldn’t scare me get pest control in a nuisance but anything better than broken Britain now you’re like us you have other residency please be careful the inheritance tax France worse than broken Britain my bro lives near carcassone 😁ENJOY❤️

Certainly it will put you off . But understandably these house may have been a can for a while . Here in Wales some areas especially the old ones Rats / Mice travel between attics of the neighbouring house . I like what you concluded either way these creatures find ways to share places . Hope you enjoy your new residence. We thinking of buying something in France 🇫🇷.

There are worse things than this and if you don’t live in a place full time without a couple of cats you will have Rats or Mice.

Thats normal they allways move into empty houses we still get them in winter you just have to deal with them , the loir’s are the worst they eat all the cables and pee and crap everywhere , they are protected but everyone ignores that and traps them

Rats carry diseases, and if they're droppings, get anywhere near your food preparation areas you are at risk. I lived at the countryside for twenty years and we got ourselves two cats. Don't over feed them, so they get fat and lazy, and they will happily catch as many rats and mice as they can. If you're going to use rat poison, don't have any cats. If the cats catch a rat that is just eating the poison, they'll become poisoned themselves.
