You don't learn facts in school. You learn processes to solve problems, if you fully grasp that schoolwork you will be able to use the same process to solve similar problems in your life. You cannot have every student reinvent every concept in mathematics, it is too inefficient.

I think this is reductive. A huge chunk of education is just being exposed to phenomena and their interpretations, not necessarily problems. Learners do build personal ontologies more or less like banking, because they wouldn't even recognize problems if their naive ontologies can't describe them.
