The paper he mentions, AI 2027, is well worth a read, because while the scenario may sound totally implausible, the way the paper is structured is that it works through lots of smaller – and each much more plausible – steps to get there. Of course, at each fork there’s another path, but you can understand how a series of bad decisions (or no decisions) and some bad luck over the next couple years could really lead to something that on its face sounds ridiculous today.
