@phillipscollection: Christina Chan is a self-taught artist who brings visibility to modern slavery through her hyperrealistic portraits of survivors. These portraits highlight the power, resilience, and humanity of individuals whose stories are too often overlooked. The International Labour Organization estimates that 28 million people worldwide are trapped in forced labor, with many exploited in manufacturing industries—including electronics. The artist creates each work slowly and intentionally, with 20 to 80 or more hours spent on a single portrait. Her hope is that viewers walk away with deeper questions about where exploitation might exist in their own lives—whether through the products they use, the systems they participate in, or the assumptions they carry.
