Speaking in November 2025 at the Gordon Institute of Business Science in Johannesburg, South Africa, Sachs stated that the US actively impedes the African unification project because a unified Africa would not be a source of cheap industrial inputs anymore. The solution according to him, is for Africa to do away with the idea of carrying out industrial transformation at a national level 55 different times, and embrace unity so that a single continental push can emerge, which will be much harder to stop.
