@realchrispowell: Shoutout to @Therunningweek for putting this rule out there, because the neuroscience behind it is real. 🧠 Your brain doesn't want you to move. That's not weakness, that's an old survival mechanism, conserve energy, avoid the unknown. But Newton had it right, a body in motion tends to stay in motion. Here's the thing, when you're not moving, your brain predicts discomfort before you even start. That prediction lights up fear, and the longer you sit in it, the harder it gets to move at all. The second you actually start moving, that energy shifts. It moves out of the fear center and into the part of your brain that keeps the body going. There's a reward there. Your body wants to keep moving. So don't try to talk yourself into a full workout. Just move for five minutes. Most people are hooked by minute three. And if you're not?? You still did five more minutes than you were going to do. 👊🏼

I find this actually does work. Some evenings I have little motivation to lift so I just start pulling and pushing my resistance band. Before I know it I'm back in the right mindset for an hour of dumbells. Like you say, it's the first 3-5 minutes to get warmed up.

This is true with just about anything. Plenty of days I don’t want to walk my dog or do my strength training but, if I just tell myself to do it for just 10 minutes, I quickly forget I didn’t want to do it!
