Svalbard is not just the most important satellite ground station, it is THE satellite ground station. Svalsat (operated by Kongsberg Satellite Sevices (KSAT)) is so far north, it’s the ideal location for any satellite in Polar Orbit. Couple that with the fact that KSAT also operating a ground station literally on the South Pole, it is the ground station service EVERYONE wants, not just NASA. It’s all of the major operators, INCLUDING Starlink, as their main contract is with KSAT! It’s literally any major satellite operator’s interest to defend this cable.

Russia was also blamed for the blowing up of the nord stream pipeline but it was the US and Ukraine meant to get Europe to fully engage against Russia so… there are no good guys only war mongering assholes leading nations

we lost one of the cables a few years ago, and we had alot of meetings on how to get in touch with the rest of the world if the other cable was cut 😳
