While we were in Charleston, we posted on Stories asking if anyone would let me come over and help organize their home. Lauren invited us in. We thought the day would be about sharing a few organizing tips, but what it became was so much more. Lauren already had a beautiful, organized house. But since losing her mom two years ago shortly after she started building her house, she had been struggling to now make it truly feel like home. She missed having her mom there to say, “Okay, here is what you do.” So we spent the day making small, comforting changes using ideas from my new book. We brought her mother’s vase and silver out of storage. We displayed her children’s artwork, created a craft and homework cart for calmer afternoons, and framed old photographs of her mom so Lauren could see her every time she walked through the door. Nothing we did completely changed her house. But each little detail made it feel warmer, more personal and more connected to the people she loves. Because homemaking is not about having a perfect house or buying more things. It is about bringing the meaningful things you already have into your everyday life and creating a home where the people inside feel seen, loved and cared for. Lauren later told me there were so many things she did not know she still needed her mom to teach her. That is why I wrote Homemaking with Babs. So whenever you need a little motherly guidance, you can open the book and hear me say, “Okay, here is what you do.” ❤️
