A reminder that the few minutes you see of a disabled or chronically ill person’s life are never the full picture. 🤍 You might see someone out shopping, having a meal, laughing with friends, walking without their mobility aid or simply looking “fine”. What you don’t see is everything that may have happened behind closed doors just to make those few moments possible. You don’t see the days spent resting beforehand. The pain afterwards. The help getting washed or dressed. Someone washing their hair because lifting their arms is too much. The medication reminders. The meals being cooked. The housework being picked up. The pain relief being set up. The countless little things somebody else quietly takes care of. A good 10 minutes doesn’t mean someone isn’t disabled. Looking well doesn’t mean they feel well. Doing something once doesn’t mean they can do it repeatedly. And behind so many chronically ill and disabled people is a partner, family member, friend or carer doing things the outside world will probably never see. They’re often the reason that person has enough energy left to experience those little pieces of normality at all. So this is also for them. 🤍 For the people who wash our hair, make the food, fetch the medication, pick up the jobs we can’t manage, sit beside us through the worst days and never expect recognition for any of it. We see you too. There is so much more to disability than the tiny snapshot of somebody’s life you happen to witness. Please don’t judge an entire disability by the 10 minutes you saw. 🤍 #InvisibleDisability #ChronicIllness #DisabilityAwareness #InvisibleIllness #ChronicPain
