one of the biggest changes is that once the cockpit doors close, they don't open them for anything. the policy is that even if possible hijackers kill everyone else on the plane, at least the pilots will survive and can land the plane and have authorities ready to take the hijackers. it sounds surreal but that change was because of 9/11

i remember being a long haul flight at 7 years old and the cabin crew asking if any children wanted to visit the cockpit...like they actually invited people in to meet the pilots and everything. couldn't even contemplate that happening now.

When I was a kid,l in the 90s, air travel was still a magical experience for kids. I visited the cockpit on EVERY flight I ever took, I would go to the gate to say hello and goodbye to my grandparents when they visited. My grandad used to work for British Airways before I was born and even when I was like 10 years old, pilots still remembered his name and would talk to me about him. One time they even let my mum and I sit in the cockpit for takeoff and landing. Anyone under the age of like 28 would have no memories of any of that now

When I was 18, the pilot of a then new 767 flight out of JFK took a picture of me sitting in the cockpit. 9/11 robbed countless aspiring Aerospace Engineers of that experience. 😩
