If you’ve been feeling that constant lump in your throat or a cough that just won’t quit, I know how frustrating and draining it can be. Dealing with silent reflux is exhausting because you’re doing your best, but you don't always get the "warning" of traditional heartburn. It’s a lot to manage, but I promise you can get through this with a little bit of patience and some gentle changes. If I were in your shoes today (which I have been before!), here are the first 10 things I’d do to start feeling like myself again. Give yourself a lift. Try using a wedge pillow or propping up the head of your bed. It’s a small change that lets gravity take some of the pressure off your throat while you rest. Honor the three-hour window. Try to finish your last meal a few hours before heading to bed. It gives your body the time it needs to digest peacefully before you lie down. Sip on alkaline water. When your throat feels irritated, water with a pH of 8.8 or higher can be incredibly soothing. It helps deactivate the enzymes that cause that scratchy feeling. Be mindful of the "Big Five." For a little while, try stepping back from caffeine, alcohol, chocolate, mint, and citrus. Think of it as a temporary "reset" for your system. Skip the bubbles. Carbonated drinks can put extra pressure on your stomach. Sticking to flat, room-temperature water is much kinder to your esophagus right now. Take your time at meals. Try to chew slowly and really enjoy your food. It’s a simple way to help your digestion along and keep things moving smoothly. Wear something comfortable. Avoid tight belts or high-waisted clothes that press on your stomach. Giving your midsection some breathing room can make a world of difference. Try a soothing alginate. Look for a reflux liquid with sodium alginate. It creates a soft, physical barrier that helps keep everything settled where it should be. Clear the air with saline. If you’re dealing with that "stuck" feeling or post-nasal drip, a gentle nasal saline spray can be really comforting for your sinuses and throat. Listen to your body. Keep a simple note of what you’re eating and how you feel. It’s not about being perfect; it’s just about learning what makes your body feel safest and most comfortable. Consider soothing mucilaginous herbs like slippery elm and DGL. This is why I created Sequoia Soothe. You can learn more in my bio. Please be patient with yourself. Healing from LPR isn't an overnight process, but every small, kind choice you make for your body adds up. You've got this. #lpr #silentreflux #laryngopharyngealreflux #acidreflux #gerd
