Hii I’m a freshman! I got a 587 but ended up not going to a specialized high school, it was useful for me to find online tests that were like a hard version of the SHSAT because the real thing was harder than the practice tests, especially with added anxiety. Also pace yourself, if you don’t know a question or are taking too long on it, do it last

what is the difference between specialized and regular high schools? are specialized just more advanced in certain subjects and more stressful? i’m thinking of stuy bronx or queens but idk if i want to take on all the stress and pressure im probably just going to not study that much and see what i can get might be wasting my once in a life opportunity

I got to stuy rn and some advice I have is to PLEASE MAKE SURE you read the passages thoroughly and understand it rather than skimming it, especially if you read the questions beforehand, it makes it take less time, but now that its computer adaptive, you can no longer progress or go back to other questions i think, so time management is really important. If you take too long on a question like 5 minutes or more without a clue what the answer is, as bad as it may be, I think you have to take an educated guess through eliminating choices and taking the risk, otherwise you might run out of time for other questions.

not tryna dox myself, i didnt do the shsat but a very very similar test - one good thing to focus on is logic. if you dont know a formula, be able to figure out what you think it should be based on the info you know (ex you forgert the triangle area formula, so you realize a triangle is half of a square, so you find the area for the square 2 of them would make and divide by 2). for english, thats always just been a cross your fingers thing i think. if you can, do the questions you know first then come back - dont waste 30 mins on a question you might not get points on and end up recklessly answering one you couldve got right

Don’t stress out conserve ur time and if a question is taking too long (excluding first time reading for Ela part) skip it and come back later focus on ur questions have a healthy breakfast and a good nights rest

Make peace with the fact that it’s fine no matter what school you get into. It’s rlly not the end of the world. I got into tech and ended up going to Townsend first offer 😭😭, oh and be ready to cry a lot
