@unsilencedmen: 🚨 MEN’S MENTAL HEALTH | LET’S TALK As we mark World Suicide Prevention Day, we’re reminded that men are often taught to suppress their emotions and “stay strong.” Leon de Beer of the South African Federation for Mental Health highlights that depression in men doesn’t always look like sadness — it can show up as anger, irritability, aggression or withdrawal. If a man says he’s struggling, listen. Take him seriously. Ask the difficult questions. A conversation could save a life. 🎙️ Speaker: Leon de Beer | South African Federation for Mental Health 📰 Source: eNCA @encanews @safmh_south_africa Away with “Suck It Up.” Indoda Ayikhali. #UnsilencedMen #WorldSuicidePreventionDay #MensMentalHealth #SuicidePrevention #fyp

In my opinion, unemployment and unhealthy relationships are two major reasons men struggle with depression and sometimes take their own lives. Being broke while watching others succeed, plus being betrayed or unsupported by a partner, can break a man mentally. We need to talk about this more. 🖤

I feel the fatherlessness (father absence both physically and emotionally, emotionally in bold) in households somehow contributes to this. This generation of men need to be honest with themselves. They can’t keep running away from their emotional/father wound.

Makgaleng 🙌 :
The point is that many men are taught to hide their pain. When a man cries or speaks about his mental health, he can be mocked, told to “man up,” or made to feel less of a man. So he learns to keep everything inside. We can’t tell men to speak up and then ridicule them when they finally do. If we genuinely care about suicide prevention, we need to create a space where men can speak without shame or judgement.
