My engagement ring is a lab grown aquamarine. It's beautiful, but because it's a softer stone, it gets dull quickly with everyday wear. It requires lots of cleaning and maintenance to keep it brilliant. I have switched to wearing a cheap silver band for everyday wear, and my engagement ring for special occasions.

There's loads of alternate stones. Sapphires come in many colors, and there's nothing wrong with lab gemstones. Remember you're buying a pretty rock. Also you should definitely show us your wife's rock collection!

and also, for folks flip-flopping on an amethyst ring, not only does amethyst not hold up hardness-wise, but over time, UV exposure from sunlight WILL fade the color to almost nothing. the UV reverses the process talked about in the video!
