@stevencyrmd: C3, 4, 5 keep the diaphragm alive. That’s not just a med-school mnemonic. It’s why a high cervical injury can take your breath away. Every level of your spinal cord has a job: C5 — bend the elbow C6 — cock the wrist back C7 — straighten the arm C8 — close the fingers T1 — spread the fingers L2 — lift the hip L3 — kick the knee straight L4 — lift the foot L5 — lift the big toe S1 — point the foot down S2–S4 — bowel, bladder, and sexual function This is why a disc herniation, stenosis, or fracture at one level can change everything. And why a careful exam tells us exactly where the problem lives. Save this map. If you’ve ever been told “your MRI looks fine” but your exam doesn’t match — this is why the level matters. — Dr. Steven Cyr | Spine Surgeon #SpinalCord #Myotomes #SpineHealth #BackPain #NeckPain
I fell backwards ice skating and had a single nondisplaced C2 fracture.
Seeing posts by people with spine injuries I realize how I dodged a bullet.
I also know why EMTs put rigid collar on fall victims.
I had a concussion, no loss of consciousness, but too dizzy to sit up which is why EMTs were called.
