Rex is a big, powerful Mastiff, but some of the smallest everyday sounds can still frighten him. After suffering abuse in a previous home, he spent years struggling with anxiety, and now two much smaller dogs have become an important part of the family helping him rebuild his confidence. Rex is an English and French Mastiff mix whose early life was far from easy. According to his current owner, Rex was beaten and subjected to an electric shock collar by former owners. Those experiences left him fearful of things many dogs barely notice, including clapping, shouting, and even brooms. His behavior became so difficult that one previous family reportedly considered having him euthanized. By the time Rex reached his current home at around 18 months old, he had already lived with three different owners. His new owner understood that helping Rex would take patience. Over the following two and a half years, he worked to build the dog's confidence and help him become more comfortable around people and other animals. Rex made considerable progress, although his anxiety did not disappear completely. Eventually, he became part of a busy household that included children and two other dogs, a little Shih Tzu named Huxley and a white rescue dog named Winnie. In March 2023, Rex's owner shared a video showing the three dogs together on a couch. As Rex rested, Huxley and Winnie approached him and repeatedly licked his face. The affectionate interaction quickly attracted attention online, especially because of the size difference between the large Mastiff and his two smaller companions. Their owner explained that Rex had come a long way from the frightened dog who once struggled to tolerate close contact with other animals. There is another touching part of their relationship. Winnie is deaf, and according to their owner, she often follows Rex and relies on him to help her understand what is happening around her. Huxley, meanwhile, is a friendly little dog who enjoys being close to everyone. Although Rex still has anxious moments, the three have developed a close relationship, and their owner says Rex has become increasingly comfortable with his canine siblings. Rex's story is not about a dog whose fears vanished overnight. It is about the slow progress that can happen when a frightened animal is given patient care, a stable home, and time to adjust. After everything Rex experienced in his earlier life, seeing him share a couch with Winnie and Huxley shows just how much his world has changed.
