About the dog meat, there’s actually dogs bred solely for their fur or meat! It’s just like how certain animals such as cows, pigs, and chickens are bred as livestock. Dog meat is popular in other parts of Asia such as the Philippines, Malaysia, China, Korea, etc, but it’s not like people are chopping up chihuahuas and poodles.

Eating dog meat is not part of our culture. The number of people who eat dog meat is even smaller than the majority who don't, and we believe that eating dog meat will bring bad karma. For example, my maternal grandfather once went to a party, and they brought out a plate of meat, but he didn't know it was dog meat and ate a piece. Afterwards, he was sick for more than a week before recovering. And since most of the dog meat comes from theft, we don't think highly of people who eat dog meat.

That’s Chinese characters not Japanese writing on the old temples. It’s called Chữ Nôm; adapted from Chinese to fit the Vietnamese language. It was replaced by the Latin based writing system after French colonization.

Hi! Vietnamese here and while i deeply appreciate your honest observation and love for the experince here, i just wanna fix some teeny information here! For the oldest college, it isnt Japanese but old and ancient Chinese mixed with a little bit of Vietnamese olden days letter system (idk how to explain it in English) because we used to be intruded by China and our culture got influenced alot by their culture! Thats all, thanks for visiting our lovely country btw!<3

i love ur honest reviews! i’m vietnamese and went back for the first time years ago and i completely agree w ur points! however the dog meat part is false bc it’s not common anymore, dogs were for ppl w low income back in the days and i guess it’s still a common tradition for some people but most viet ppl dont rlly eat that

im just gonna correct you a little bit, Vietnam is not cash heavy, we're just not card-friendly, i'm sure 99% of places now have QR code payment and that's what Vietnamese people usually pay by too. These days people only carry a phone out and that's it, if we buy something we scan QR to pay with the banking apps.
