@femi__unfiltered: Canada’s immigration system is changing — and people need to pay attention. The story of the Kumar family should be a wake-up call. After about 8 years in Canada, Harish Kumar, his wife Sonika and their two children were removed to India after their refugee claim was denied and their efforts to remain in Canada on humanitarian grounds were unsuccessful. They left Canada on September 7, 2026. Whatever your opinion about their case, there is a bigger conversation here: A refugee claim is not simply another pathway to remain in Canada. You must genuinely meet the legal requirements for protection. And please understand the difference between a failed claim and a fraudulent claim. A person can make a genuine refugee claim and still be refused. That does not automatically mean they committed fraud. But deliberately inventing persecution, submitting false documents, hiding important information or making material misrepresentations can have consequences that follow you for years. It can affect temporary status. It can affect permanent residence. It can result in removal from Canada. And if Canadian citizenship was ultimately obtained through fraud or misrepresentation, citizenship can also be revoked. Canada may still welcome immigrants and refugees, but the system is becoming increasingly focused on enforcement and integrity. Don’t destroy your future in Canada because somebody told you, “Just claim asylum.” Your immigration history follows you.
