Step one, don’t take it to Dave’s, step two, find a shop that can fix it without a $30,000 engine build, step three, laugh at Dave.

Nothing. It’s a diesel. My 2020 has sounded like this since day one and 497,682 miles later and still sounds like that. Truck runs fine. No issues.

Don’t buy a roller cam Cummins. Stick with the flat tappet models

doesn't sound like lifters to me. sounds like exhaust leak. if i had to guess its coming from the hot side/turbo manifold. if it is replace with after market manifold

My 2019 started ticking at 38K from new, under warranty replaced cam, rollers etc. I now reached 77K and it started again. I’ve only ran 5/40 Val Blue and changed every 5K. Had the flat tappets installed. Best decision

You need to immediately upgrade your push rods to a bigger thicker push rod that will distribute more oil.. if it’s too late for your lifters and they’re already trashed do not and I will repeat myself. Do not convert it to the flat tap conversion kit because the coding is coming off of them and destroying the cam. you need to go buy a fourth GEN bottom use the flex plate off of the 4 GEN depending on what year if it’s a 21 to 24 you can just buy spacers so you can run your original cam and crank sensor.. if it’s a 19 or 20, then you’ll have to put your cam gear on the 4 GEN cam and run your front cover.. also depending on what year you you may have to use a different year alternator bracket.. this is how you make a True bulletproof Cummins 5 GEN..

Valve adjustment. But it could already be too late and a brand new engine is the fix.

Fun fact that tick can also come from an ac compressor and is considered normal operation. But honestly first I would check your rockers and make sure none have cam lose and find what lifter failed after prior to tear down

Slap a set of lifters and cam in it, check pushrods for wear, and start using the right oil
