The owner who raised them had planned to sell them to the market in six months. However, his sudden, untimely death forced his family to make an immediate decision to send the brothers to market right away. In that moment of unimaginable grief, the farmer’s daughter looked into the eyes of these young steer. Instead of seeing mere property or a source of income, she saw her father’s love reflected in their eyes. She realized she could not bear to sever this final, living connection to her father. God gives us free will, and within that free will, He allows us to choose between the way of the world or the path of grace. In her darkest hour, the farmer’s daughter chose mercy. Instead of sending them to their deaths, she surrendered Joaquin and Phoenix to the safety of a sanctuary. Today, they thrive, free from fear and separation. Some may look at a suffering world and ask, "Why doesn't God just intervene?" The answer lies in the miracle of the changed human heart. God does not force us to show mercy; instead, through the mercy of Jesus, He gives us a direct example of the grace He wants us to align our lives with. He used the heart of a farmer's daughter to show that very mercy to the world.
