@flyandfoto: Fairbanks, Alaska is our favorite Northern Lights destination, and after chasing the aurora across seven countries for over four years, we keep coming back. If seeing the Northern Lights is the main goal of your trip, Fairbanks gives you a strong combination of inland weather, dark skies, and places to stay where you can watch for the aurora from bed, without spending every night on a tour bus. Two of our favorite Northern Lights stays near Fairbanks: Borealis Basecamp This is one of the easiest Northern Lights trips you can plan because almost everything is in one place. They pick you up from the Fairbanks airport, so you don’t need a rental car or have to worry about winter driving. Once you arrive, you can stay on property and watch the Northern Lights from a glass-roof igloo, go dog sledding, snowmobiling, sledding, take a helicopter tour, meet the resident reindeer, use the sauna, and eat at the on-site restaurant. The biggest selling point for us is the location. When the aurora appears, you’re already there. You can step outside your room or stay in bed and watch through the glass roof. Use code FLYANDFOTO for 5% off. Wilding Hotels Fairbanks Wilding’s glass cabins are designed around Northern Lights viewing, with floor-to-ceiling windows, north-facing views, heated floors, private decks, fire pits, saunas, and kitchenettes. You can watch for the aurora without leaving your cabin. Use code FLYANDFOTO10 for 10% off direct bookings. Northern Lights season in Fairbanks typically runs from late August through early April. #fairbanksalaska #northernlights #alaskatravel #auroraborealis #northernlightshotel

Okay, serious question here. I went to Iceland to see the northern lights. They looked pretty good in pictures but just like wispy clouds with the naked eye. No colors at all. Are you able to sometimes see the colors without a camera? I find it hard to believe that there are pre-camera stories about the dancing lights but now all we get is grey clouds that sometimes move.

Best way to see them is a Norwegian coastal cruise! A full week above the Arctic circle and because you are moving all the time, you don’t have the cloud issue and the lights are so strong if you go at the right time (with the naked eye too)

I lived there for 15 years. I loved it there. The Aurora Borealis is one of favorite things about Fairbanks.

We went to Fairbanks for our honeymoon. Stayed at Borealis Basecamp, which I see in your video here. There for four nights and it was cloudy entire time. I was so disappointed we spent so much money and didnt get to see them. Now we’ve been planning a trip to Tromsø for a second chance… now you have me worried again. Travel is so expensive and working in schools, I am so limited on the time I am able to travel.

I once got to see them in South Carolina. They weren't amazing, but it was incredible they got that low. I hope to go to Fairbanks one day.

Seen them 3 times in Norway. Never saw them in Iceland or Alaska. It’s just the luck of the draw I think. I’m biased though because Norway is my favorite place to visit 🥰
