@charrydbecks: If you have not sat in an IEP meeting and advocate for your childs needs than we are completely living different lives. #autismmom #autism #autismawareness #autismacceptance #autismjourney
momma with an IEP for a child with disabilities, were in a new district. we had open house today and everyone knows him and the amount of positive feedback I received made me teary eyed, because he's seen.

An IEP to look forward to every year . So far, I’ve cried at every one . Cried about their challenges, and cried celebrating their progress too. From one autism mom to the other, I celebrate your baby’s milestone with you from here . 🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽

I remember feeling so defeated when I was in my son’s IEP meetings. All of the “ he can’t do’s” became what he overcame and able to do! My baby is reading above his grade level and is on grade level in math. Don’t lose hope. Our kids got this!

As a teacher who has to attend these meetings, it’s really hard for us to give the information too. I want to parent to be informed about their child’s needs but it feels extremely harsh. Just know that we’re sharing every detail of what they’re struggling with so that the team can brainstorm ways to help, not because we hate your child and want to point out their flaws.

That’s why you come into those meetings with a picture of your baby and an introduction about how fabulous he is. Make sure they think of him as a child and not a number/

I Feel this, mama. 💕 But the things these kids CAN do are what make them absolutely incredible. They’ve taught me so much about myself and the world around us. I wish sometimes I saw things through their eyes.

Homeschooling is the best option for those who are able to do it.
It's exhausting trying to explain to "educators"

I use to cry but now my son is in high school & he’s in a work program & doing so much better. They all develop at their own pace my son didn’t talk til he was almost 9 & he’s only been talking 6 years but keeps up with his peers he wants to drive & work & im begging him to slow up 🫶🏾🫶🏾 I pray all autistic children find their way and overcome their delays 🫶🏾

I homeschool mine so I don't have to be bothered. I know their limitations and we focus on them.

The teachers are so good about highlighting the goals achieved, but it breaks my momma heart that my child struggles. No matter how well it goes, I walk out defeated.

Not a good IEP! The the team is are focusing on what they “can’t do” put that energy into what your child can do. Build of their strengths ugh! Sorry you had to go through that.
