People don't realize that it's not just a bigger stall to fit wheelchairs, it's also supposed to be available for those who deal with urgency and lack of control, those who need to empty bags, and other medical needs.

Also a reminder don’t give dirty looks to a mother bringing a baby into an accessible stall, non of the other stalls fit car seats or strollers. I’ve had this happen on several occasions

I wish all stalls had the grab bars so I wouldn’t need to take the large accessible stall just for those. Accessibility should be more accessible

I really wish they would make some stalls just a bit bigger. sometimes that's all a person needs. a bathroom with more than 10 stalls can give up one stall to increase the size of some of the others. and why is there a bathroom with 20 stalls and only 1 accessible one?

a bit of a tangent but i studied ergonomics and accessible design in college and its so important that you post about your disability bc it opens people's eyes to the diversity of disability and how different accessibility features serves people with different needs (disabled and not disabled) every time I've been in accessible restrooms i thought if the low hooks as features that serve wheel chair users and people with dwarfism, it's mind opening to learn how it serves other needs for other people too.

Sorta related- my local airport recently opened up a new terminal and in the restroom every single stall had ambulatory bars in them and were long enough you could comfortably have your suitcase in front of you. Can that be the damn norm 😭

As a mom who usually has 1 or 2 kids with her who need to come into the stall with me - the accessible stall is often the only place we fit. I wish the stalls weren’t so small so we didn’t need to use that one.

I think it’s because sometimes the regular stalls are so small they are uncomfortable for everyone to use. ie door opens in and practically touches toilet

Even if you don't genuinely need them you should be able to use the bathroom of your choice, sometimes it's preference and comfort and if it's available then people allowed to give themselves a moment to not feel crammed to use the bathroom just in case someone else might have to wait

If I’m in one of those “concert break before headliner/rush at intermission” type bathroom lines where the whole thing is occupied the whole time, and if I get to the front of the line and the accessible stall opens first, I just say “does anyone waiting need the accessible stall?” To the people immediately behind me. Because I can go into 8/8 stalls and they can go into 1/8.

I’m a wheelchair user so I use the ADA stall and I always appreciate when it is the last stall in the bathroom since it’s more likely to be open than if it’s at the front. Another thing I do is avoid parking in the ADA parking spots that are van accessible if possible. I don’t need that spot and there are so few of them available.
