When I was in 5th grade my mom had me help hide her affair with my step dad’s best friend. My mother has never considered me her daughter. I was always a sister or a friend to her. Had to mature way too early and she uses that to her advantage

“Ugly anger” is just boundaries and self respect. Not going to take abuse or disrespect from someone who claims to be a parent.

Funny how a stranger’s words can describe a feeling you thought belonged only to you😳

You didn’t mention what happens when you leave to survive and when you finally get the courage to call, how you can hear the hurt in the young siblings, how mom ignores why you left and only remembers you did, how you cry yourself to sleep even years later thinking of how you abandoned them. Even when you know you left bc if you didn’t you would have died, you still feel like you’re horrible for going. My mom still acts like I left because I didn’t like rules and maybe I did but the rules for me were be the mother and caretaker and cook and teacher and therapist and starve to feed others. I was 96 lbs at 17. I was told to suck in my stomach when you could see my ribs. I gave up my food so that everyone else could have 2nds. I still love my mom and my siblings and I send money to help and I send presents and letters but going back would slowly kill me.

And the eldest daughter becoming the second mother, when she was still “just a little girl”. That had to grow up faster.

This fucking broke me because I know this feeling. People don’t talk about the guilt that comes with leaving to survive. You can know, deep down, that staying would have killed you, and still lie awake crying because you feel like you abandoned the people you loved. I still think about the younger versions of my siblings. I think about what they must have felt when I left. I think about the phone calls, the hurt in their voices, and every birthday, Christmas and ordinary day I wasn’t there. And sometimes I still wonder if I should’ve stayed — even though I know exactly what staying would have cost me. I was expected to be the mum, the caretaker, the cook, the teacher, the therapist… while barely taking care of myself. I was a child trying to keep everyone else alive and forgetting that I deserved to eat, to be safe, to actually be a fucking kid. And the hardest part? I still love my family. Leaving didn’t magically make me stop loving them. I still worry. I still care. I still want to help. But loving people doesn’t mean you have to keep putting yourself back into the place that was destroying you. Sometimes distance is the only way you can love your family without losing yourself completely. I didn’t leave because I didn’t love them. I left because I finally realised I had to save myself too. ❤️‍🩹

I’ve never told my siblings that our mom’s suicide note didn’t mention us at all. I hold that inside because they don’t need to know she didn’t love them like they did her. It’s been 25 yrs. I dropped out of college to pay for her funeral and finished late. No regrets but also, they don’t understand or love me the way I love them. 😭

I though I was the only oldest sister being a therapist to their mum, I guess not. Thank you btw, this made me cry in a good way, it made me feel understood, and I appreciate these videos. I’ve had a rough day and this made me feel better. Thank you.
