This is why we need a well staffed federal Department of Education that works to provide guidance on a minimum standard curriculum to schools across the nation to ensure as much as possible that all children receive the same basic education. We also need to ensure the Department of Education has enough funding to provide additional support to schools that lack the local funding to provide that standard education. The Trump administration has all but destroyed the federal Department of Education so we must vote in legislators who are ready to restore it and expand it's mandate to have the ability to provide financial and other types of support to schools that do not have what they need to provide students with the minimum standard education because local funding is lacking.

💯💯💯 This is exactly why I entered the education profession and continue to advocate education and systems policy. So much of the outcomes of education have absolutely nothing to do with “Mehret” and everything to do with which students have access to what.

I taught in Forrest City at Stewart Elementary for 17 years, and 15 years at College Station Elementary in Little Rock. Those teachers, parents, and grandparents were some of the most devoted, hard working families in both communities. Test grades will never reflect that.

I was born and raised in Northeast Arkansas. I totally get what you're saying about the way that they were taught. The way that their families were treated, the money that their families made, even what school district that you landed in. It makes a ton of difference to what you have available to you. And to where you are at when you graduate and go out into the real world, it's all different. And when you compare that, to people who were brought up in larger cities, or other states, where their views, their laws, their curriculum was different. Things are different, and you see how many of those people were raised with a different set of values, and just purely schools that had more money to offer more things. I have honestly never looked at people and said oh you all had the same opportunity, because they did not that would be a lie, whether it is from your home life that kept you from achieving or from your educational life that kept you from achieving or even medical issues that kept you from achieving your goals. So many will never stop. And think about what all goes into even giving people a fighting chance across the board.
