when my son was around 4 or 5 I let him choose. He asked for a bright color 😂 Our bathroo. was lime green 🤣🤣 We " loved " it for about 2 months and had to tone it down. But he loved that we loved it

Lower and the shelf above or beside you'll knock stuff with your elbows or the door and it'll drive you nuts. Also get everyone a caddy for their them only items to carry in and out. Easiest way to keep it universal and not feeling overwhelmed.
