I don’t think I could have known when I walked into Studio 54 that night just how unforgettable my first experience seeing The Rocky Horror Show would become. I saw the Broadway revival on the night Tim Curry died, and you could feel the weight of it before you even walked through the doors. TV news crews were gathered outside Studio 54, along with longtime Rocky Horror fans who had come to pay tribute. Inside, the theater had created a beautiful memorial for Tim in the lobby, with candles and a small altar where people could leave flowers, notes and mementos. The energy inside the theater was wild and so special, especially with all of the super fans in the audience. There was this incredible mix of celebration, excitement and genuine emotion throughout the night. And then came the curtain call. The current Frank-N-Furter, Paul Soileau, was joined by Luke Evans, who had just finished his run in the role, and Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters, who is about to take over as Frank-N-Furter. The three of them sang “I’m Going Home” together in tribute to Tim Curry. As someone who spent years working in the theater industry and who can easily see multiple shows in a week when I’m in NYC, I’ve witnessed a lot of special Broadway moments. But getting to experience this on my very first night seeing Rocky Horror is something I’ll never forget. This is why I love live theater. You can see the same production on another night, but you can never recreate what happens in the room. The Rocky Horror Show is currently playing at Studio 54, so if you’ve been thinking about seeing it, this is your sign. #rockyhorror #rockyhorrorshow #franknfurter #nyctheater #timcurry
