@plantwave: Will this tree sing? 🌺 We clipped the sensors onto a pōhutukawa, and it gave us one note and held it. Here is why that happens. The device is not listening for sound. It reads tiny changes in the plant's electrical signal and turns that change over time into a wave. The wave becomes pitch. When the signal moves a lot you get a lot of notes. When it stays where it is, so does the music. This one stayed. So what came out was not a melody but a drone, one tone sitting still for as long as we listened. It suits the tree. Pōhutukawa grows on sea cliffs, rooted into bare rock out over the water, taking salt wind for centuries at a time. Holding is what it does. #pohutukawa #plantmusic #plantsounds #ambient #naturesounds
