@stevedvalentine: Found out the 1,000 square feet on this house was added with no permits.   Here's the part that stings: I found it after my inspection period. Legally, I was clear. I could've said nothing and closed anyway.   I called the agent instead.   It's going to cost me. Ten, maybe twenty grand out of my own pocket — on a problem I could've walked past. The sellers were gracious about it and kicked in where they could, and we got it resolved this morning.   Why eat the money when I didn't have to? Because my word in a transaction is worth more than $20,000. It just is. You do this long enough, your name is the only thing you actually own.   We're closing on it.
