@nancyychristine: I need some guidance from the menopause informed providers out there… My progesterone intolerance is pretty much off the charts. I become a person that I don’t even like… I’m irritable, volatile and it even kind of changes my mood. I don’t need progesterone for uterine protection because I don’t have a uterus, but I do know there are other benefits to progesterone that go beyond uterine protection, right? I also think I’m having a histamine reaction to my estrogen HRT as evidenced by the flushed cheeks that I seem to get every single night. I’ve tried different doses of oral micro progesterone and most recently, I’ve tried 100 mg vaginally… And in a short 3 to 4 days, I’m back to being irritable and easily annoyed, etc. There’s got to be a way around this… Is the answer transdermal progesterone? If not, what are the options for someone who is as progesterone intolerant as me? #menopause #progesteroneintolerance #histamine #progesterone #hrt @The Vag Doc @Dr. Amy Killen MD @The 'Pause Life @Heather Hirsch MD

Generally 1 in 5 people have a paradoxical effect and usually we switch you to progestins which still protect your uterus I don’t give you the other side effects. Slynd, norethindrone, IUD

DNP, APRN here. It’s also how you respond to GABA. Similar pathway to Prog metabolism. 1) OTC progesterone cream is approx 20mg of Prog so less than what you’ve tried. 2) Pregnenolone is a precursor to Prog, you may tolerate it better than progesterone itself. 3) niacin dumps excess histamine out of the cells, Pepcid and Zyrtec block both forms (H1 and H2) which decrease some of the symptoms of histamine intolerance.

You can try transdermal which is synthetic and it works completely differently than Prometrium, which is bioidentical progesterone try the Climara pro patch I also had the same reaction to oral progesterone so I tried the synthetic progesterone and a patch and it did not make me crazy like Oral progesterone did

Im the same! Vaginally is even stronger. 10 times the amount you need. You can try compounded progesterone transdermally just much less! As you don’t need to protect your uterus
